Protogate Announces 10 Gigabit Fiber Ethernet Capabilities for Freeway

- Any 3x14 Freeway model can now be configured with 4 additional 10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-LR, or 10GBASE-T Ethernet ports -

SAN DIEGO, California, 19 September, 2016 -- Protogate Inc. has added 10 Gigabit Ethernet capabilities to its Freeway product. Any of Protogate's current 3x14 Freeway models can now be configured with up to 4 10-Gigabit 10GBASE-SR or 10GBASE-LR Fiber Ethernet ports, which can be directly connected to 10-Gigabit Fiber Ethernet networks with optical fiber.

The new Fiber Ethernet ports can be used for any purpose that any other network ports on the Freeway can be used: they can be used by system administrators or other users to login to the Freeway and configure or administer it, by client programs to send/receive data through the Freeway's WAN serial data links, or by the Freeway's monitor daemon to passively monitor and record Fiber Ethernet network traffic.

And since the added Ethernet ports use SFP+ transceiver module connectors, the Freeway can have interface modules of different types installed, so the additional Ethernet ports can be any mixture of:

Now that these types of Ethernet ports are available on the Freeway itself, Freeway users with fiber networks will no longer have to use separate "fiber-to-copper" converters, resulting in a savings in cost, a reduction in size and complexity, and an increase in reliability.
